EV’s New(ish) Amp Line, Q.

Posted In: Live Sound

EV QElectro Voice has announced it’s newest offerings in the Amp dept, the Q series.

The Q series has been around for a few years, with the Q44 and Q66, but with a complete aesthetic redesign, as well as internally, I’d call this a whole new page for the series.   Also, note, this series is replacing the previously “renown” P series of amps from EV.

The Q series is all based on Class-H amp specs, which means for you and me maximized output vs size, as well as weight.  Who doesn’t like a light amp!  Did i mention this whole series is 2 rack spaces?

And to the details… Here are the 4 Models, as well as a few tid-bits about them.

Q1212

  • 2 x 1200 Watts @ 4 Ohms, 2 x 1800 @ 2 Ohms

Q99

  • 2 x 900 Watts @ 4 Ohms, 2 x 1250 @ 2 Ohms

Q66 – EV’s Site

  • 2 x 600 Watts @ 4 Ohms, 2 x 900 @ 2 Ohms

Q44 – EV’s Site

  • 2 x 450 Watts @ 4 Ohms, 2 x 650 @ 2 Ohms

Now we’ve yet to see the real world tests to see how long these amps can run @ 2 Ohms, but I have faith in EV’s team, and if they’re listing them to run at 2 Ohms, they’ll take the heat.  Rather, they’ll get rid of the heat?

Other Points of interest on this line…  Switchable Low Pass “Notch” (LPN) filters, providing lows w/ protection.

I’ve used the older version of the Q line, and must say they worked flawlessly, and transparently.  Even close to the red.
