At NAMM, Electro Voice officially announced their new PL (Professional Live) series of microphones. They’re officially shipped, and in stock at your fine music retailer.
My first impression. Decent looking Vocal Mics, but Shure PG series quality Drum Mics? You Sure EV?
Here’s a brief overview of the series…
Vocal Mics
- PL24, PL24S – EV’s Site – On Amazon
- Dynamic, Super Cardiod Vocal Mic
- PL24S is the same mic, with switch
- PL44 – EV’s Site – On Amazon
- Dynamic, Super Cardiod Vocal Mic
- Slightly Different, More Sensitive Element than PL24
- PL80C – EV’s Site – On Amazon
- Dynamic, Super Cardiod Vocal Mic
- Neodymium Element
- Same as PL80A it seems, different finish
- PL84/PL84S – EV’s Site – On Amazon
- Condenser, Cardiod Vocal Mic
- Highest Dynamic Range of the PL Vocal Series
As you go down this list, the general sound (from top to bottom) gets better, as well as the build quality. Also, the price goes up.
Instrument (focus, drum) Mics
- PL33 – EV’s Site – On Amazon
- Kick Drum/Bass Mic
- Dynamic, Super Cardiod
- 20Hz – 10,000 Hz Frequency Response
EV is also offering Drum Mic Packages of varying price/amount of mics, but including these instrument mics mentioned above. See the below Amazon Widget or EV PL Series Product Page for more info.
I’ve been quite impressed with EV’s Mic quality from the RE series down to the N/Dym series. I can’t wait to get my hands on some of these Mics and let everyone know how they work out in practice.
